Patrician Way

In this 1950s California Modern house, which overlooks Pasadena from a hilltop perch, the challenge was to reorganize and improve circulation between all the major rooms while taking better advantage of the site, by opening the interior to the out of doors.

A new, light-filled entry, featuring a glass enclosure topped by an inverted roof, flows from the front courtyard into a suite of continuous public rooms with fluid, interchangeable functions. The Master Suite reverses this plan, compressing bedroom, closets and baths into discreet private zones lightly separated by partial-height walls.
