Doheny Pool + Gardens
To integrate a swimming pool and play area into a small orchard on a sloping site, an axial plan was developed: The rectangular pool flows outward from the house, on line with views from the main living spaces, and ends at a fountain incorporated into a low wall. A light gray plaster finish turns the water a brilliant sapphire.
Several steps, carved out of the patio's sandstone-clad retaining wall, lead down to the play area, which sits amidst fragrant climbing roses, citrus trees, and sculptural succulents. The result is an environment at once well-ordered and vitally alive. |
