This garden plan has three distinct areas. The front yard garden, hidden from the street, is the Entry Room to the house, with a central planting area, and perimeter seating. At the rear garden, raised, poured-in-place concrete planters hold specialized plant collections, and are viewed and enjoyed from both the house or the new screened-in trellis.
The steep hillside garden was replanted with native material, and reconnects to the natural habitat.
Planted with California oak, Rhamnus alaterna, and grasses and wildflowers sown using a customized seed mix, it is a seasonally changing environment.
A screened-in porch was designed and constructed as an outdoor reading room. The walls and the roof incorporate screen material for a comfortable - and bug-free - environment.
